What to Do When You Run Out of Clean Clothes in Bangkok

A calm, ordered plan for the moment you open the case and realise nothing in it is wearable.

It happens to almost everyone in Bangkok, usually around day four. The heat and humidity get through a wardrobe faster than any other city, and the case that was supposed to last a week is finished. Here is the order to do things in.

Tonight: buy yourself one day

Wash one set by hand. Hotel bathrooms in Bangkok dry a t-shirt and underwear overnight if you wring them hard in a towel first and hang them under the air conditioning. Not glamorous, but it buys a morning.

Do not send everything to the hotel per-item service in a panic. That is how a ฿2,500 laundry bill happens.

Tonight: book a morning collection

The single most useful thing you can do at 21:00 is book a collection window for early tomorrow. A pickup service collects from reception, so you can hand the bag over at breakfast and go about your day. Booking takes a couple of minutes and you pay after delivery.

If you need the clothes back the same evening, choose the same-day option and take the earliest window offered — same-day depends on a morning collection.

If you need something in hours, not days

There is an express option for genuinely urgent cases, subject to availability and the time of day. Keep the load small; drying is the bottleneck, and a smaller bag genuinely comes back faster.

The realistic fallbacks

  • Coin laundry. Around ฿100 and roughly two hours, 24 hours a day in many sois. Fine if you have the evening.
  • Hotel express. Fast and expensive; sensible for one shirt.
  • Buy something. A t-shirt at a market is ฿150–250 and you keep it. Sometimes this is the right answer for one day of cover.

What not to do

  • Do not leave a wet hand-wash in a closed bathroom in this climate. It will smell before it dries.
  • Do not send your only outfit and nothing else.
  • Do not book a return for the morning of your flight.
  • Do not assume a small shop is open on Sunday.

Preventing the repeat

The fix is simply to send laundry earlier than feels necessary. On a trip longer than five days, plan one wash around the middle, on a day you already have plans. Hand the bag to reception, go out, come back to a folded bag. Trips longer than ten days usually want two.
