There are four realistic ways to get clothes washed as a visitor in Bangkok. None of them is best for everyone, so here is what each actually involves, what it costs and who it suits. We run one of them, so treat the last section as what it is — our own service, described plainly.

1. Your hotel's own laundry

How it works: a bag and a price list in the wardrobe, filled in and left for housekeeping.

Cost: per garment. In central Bangkok hotels a shirt commonly runs ฿100–180 and trousers ฿150–250, so a modest bundle passes ฿1,000 quickly.

Speed: typically next day; same-day express usually carries a surcharge.

Best for: one or two urgent items, or when someone else is paying.

2. A local drop-off shop

How it works: you carry the bag to a shop, usually priced per kilo, and come back for it.

Cost: the cheapest attended option in the city.

Speed: often next day; ask, because signage rarely says.

Watch for: two trips in the heat, limited English in smaller shops, and loads sometimes combined with other customers'.

Best for: long stays where you are walking past the shop anyway.

3. A coin laundromat

How it works: you do it yourself. Wash, wait, dry, fold.

Cost: the lowest of all, per machine cycle.

Speed: around two hours of your own time.

4. A pickup and delivery service

How it works: the bag is collected from your hotel, condo or Airbnb and returned there washed and folded.

Cost: priced per bag rather than per garment.

Speed: next day as standard, with faster options.

Best for: travellers who would rather spend the time in the city than in a laundry.

What to check before you book any pickup service

• Is the price per bag or per kilo? A bag price is predictable; a kilo price is not until it is weighed.
• Is one delivery fee charged, or several? Some services add a pickup fee and a delivery fee separately.
• Is your load washed on its own? Kilo services often combine loads.
• Is there a tracking number? Without one, "where is my laundry" is a phone call.
• What is the same-day cut-off? Every operator has one; it should be stated before you pay.
• Which areas are covered? Central Bangkok is not the whole city.
