How much does laundry cost in Bangkok?

Laundry in Bangkok is cheap by most standards — but the gap between the cheapest and the most expensive way to get the same clothes clean is enormous. A week of holiday washing can cost you 150 baht or 2,500 baht depending entirely on which door you hand the bag through.

Here is how the three options really compare.

The three ways to get laundry done in Bangkok

Almost every visitor ends up using one of these:

1. Hotel in-house laundry — the price list in your wardrobe drawer, charged per garment.
2. Local laundry shops and laundromats — the neighbourhood shop, usually charged per kilo.
3. Pickup and delivery services — collected from where you are staying, usually charged per bag.

They are not really competing on price alone. They are competing on how much of your holiday you spend thinking about laundry.

What each option costs

Typical Bangkok ranges as of 2026. Individual businesses vary, and tourist-district shops charge more than residential ones.

The per-garment column is what catches people out. A hotel shirt at 120 baht sounds reasonable in isolation. Five shirts, three pairs of trousers, a week of underwear and some socks, and you are past 2,000 baht for a wash that costs a fraction of that anywhere else in the city.

When each one is genuinely the right choice

Nobody needs a single answer here. The honest version:

Use the hotel when it is one urgent item and you need it tonight. A single shirt pressed before a dinner is what hotel laundry is good at, and the convenience is real.

Use a coin laundromat when you are on a tight budget, you have time to kill, and you are staying somewhere with one nearby. It is the cheapest route in the city, and the trade is two hours of your day sitting next to a machine.

Use a local shop when you are staying a while, you know the neighbourhood, and you do not mind two trips — one to drop off, one to collect. Per-kilo pricing is excellent value if you can carry the bag there.

Use a pickup service when the bag is large, you are moving around the city, or your time is worth more than the difference. Flat bag pricing means a heavy load costs the same as a light one, and nobody has to find the shop.

The hidden costs people forget

• Trips count. A local shop at 50 baht per kilo is not 50 baht per kilo if you take two taxis to reach it.
• Weight is deceptive. Wet towels and jeans weigh far more than they look. Per-kilo pricing punishes exactly the loads people most want washed.
• Checkout timing. Any service that takes 48 hours is useless if you fly in 24. Always ask for the return time, not the "usual" turnaround.
• Ironing is nearly always extra. Wherever you go, pressing is priced separately from washing.
